BOARD OF EDUCATION
The Bishop Board of Education is comprised of three members elected by registered voters of the school district. The School Board is responsible for establishing the policies under which the school district operates. The Board must act within the guidelines of state and federal laws. The Board also works to ensure Bishop Public School is meeting the needs of our students.
Board members commit to a three-year term when elected to office. Board members receive no compensation for performing their duties.
BOARD MEETINGS
There are three types of board meetings: regular board meetings, special board meetings, and emergency board meetings.
REGULAR BOARD MEETINGS
The Bishop Board of Education generally meets once the month at 12:00 PM (noon) in the Bishop School Library. All school board meeting agendas are posted on the window by the front door of the school at least 24 hours before convening. All Board meetings are open to the public.
SPECIAL BOARD MEETINGS
Any meeting by the Board outside the regularly scheduled board meeting is considered a Special Board Meeting. The Board will only call a Special Board Meeting when a circumstance requires attention. At least 48 hours notice of the time, place and purpose of the Special Board Meeting will be given.
EMERGENCY BOARD MEETINGS
An Emergency Board Meeting is only called when the Board needs to handle a situation involving injury to a person, the incapacity of the Superintendent, injury or damage to public or personal property or immediate financial loss. An Emergency Board Meeting can only be called if the likelihood on increasing injury or damage or immediate financial loss is too great to wait the 48 hours required for a Special Board meeting. During an Emergency Board Meeting the Board will only discuss the business for which the meeting was called.
